This page indicates that Asheron was a member of the council of five. In fact I think that he was there to assist his mother, and was not a member of the council. He was, however, the one who suggested that Bael'Zharon could be trapped inside a pocket of portal space. I think he had studied the work of some guy named Facil, the guy who did the plane slant research that led to the "plane slant" spell that Rytheran cast when confronted by the gelidites.
