- This quest is now Retired as of the Master of Arms event. Certain light daggers and swords now appear in the Loot System with the Multi-Strike property already - removing the need for a hilt:
- Heavy Weapons - Stiletto, Jambiya, Schlager (similiar to Rapier swords)
- Light Weapons - Daggers, Epees (similiar to Rapier swords)
- Finesse Weapons - Lancet, Knife, Rapier
- The quest now rewards up to 4,500,000 experience, but does not yield any items. The 27 day timer remains.
General
- The Bandit Hilt can be attached to loot generated Daggers (Dagger, Knife, Jambiya or Khanjar, see Max Stats), and light Swords (Rapier, Short Sword, Yaoji, Simi, or Spada see Max Stats).
- You can remove a Hilt by attaching another Bandit Hilt to the weapon (although the hilt is destroyed in the process).
Walk Through
- Optional: Talk to MacNiall the Unruled in MacNiall's Freehold at 74.1S, 92.3E.
- Aquire an Iron Heart from an Iron Golem.
- Aquire an Idol Gem from one of the Idol creatures. The Umbral Hall dungeon is a good place to find these.
- Return to MacNiall the Unruled and give him the Idol Gem.
- In return he will give you Bandit Cousin's Letter which you must take to MacNiall's cousin MacDugal at the Bandit Castle.
- Take Mountain Shortcut at 34.9N 56.0E in Arwic, run due east and then take the Bandit Castle Portal at 42.4N 60.5E. The castle is just north of the drop on the hill at 66.5N 50.0E.
- Once you have given MacDugal the letter he will give you a Unfinished Bandit Blade Hilt.
- Attach the Iron Heart to the Unfinished Bandit Blade Hilt to create a Bandit Hilt.
- Attach your new hilt to the weapon of your choice (see top of page).
Weapon Notes
- For double-strike, your base skill needs to be 250+. For daggers, if your base skill is 325+, you will have triple-strike ability. Swords cannot do triple-strike.
- To multi-strike with a weapon, set your power near maximum when fighting.
- Older Tier 6 and below Bandit weapons are Attuned and Bonded once the hilt has been attached.
- Newer Tier 7 Bandit weapons are NOT Attuned or Bonded after the hilt is attached.
- All non-elemental Bandit Weapons do piercing damage when used with a shield. Without the shield all non-elemental Bandit Weapons do slashing damage except the Rapier sword which always does piercing damage.
- Elemental Bandit Weapons always do elemental damage with or without shields.
- Hilted weapons with a wield requirement of 370+ may now be tinkered either before or after hilting. Note that failing a tinker or imbue on a hilted dagger still destroys it and the hilt as well, so imbuing and tinkering before hilting is recommended. PLEASE NOTE: A weapon with a wield requirement of less than 370 cannot be hilted if it has already been tinkered!
- You can readily identify a high-level weapon that can be hilted because it will be Ivoryable.
- The Lucky White Rabbit's Foot and Gem of Spectral Force CANNOT be applied to hiltable weapons before or after they are hilted.

Lore & Dialog
MacNiall the Unruled tells you, "Arrr, and welcome to MacNiall's Freehold. Have ye seen them funny statue things the Mosswarts like to worship? I thinks their eyes is kinda pretty. Bring me one, and I'll see what I can do to reward ye."
You give MacNiall the Unruled Idol Gem.
MacNiall the Unruled tells you, "Errukh, look at the sparkle! Look, youngster. I'll give ye this note for my cousin MacDugal. I hear tell he's taken up residence with our old gang at some place called the Bandit Castle. Bring this note to him, and he'll reward ye right."
MacNiall the Unruled gives you Bandit Cousins' Letter.
MacDugal tells you, "Arrr! Don't bother me! I've got enough problems on me hands! Talk to my lieutenant, Jourgensson!"
You give MacDugal Bandit Cousins' Letter.
MacDugall tells you, "Errukh! A letter from my long-lost cousin, MacNiall! Arrr, it's good to see the old boy is doing well! I ought to reward ye for this, as he says. Here then, have one of my blade hilts. I'm workin' on a way to improve daggers and light swords."
MacDugal gives you Unfinished Bandit Blade Hilt.
MacDugal tells you, "Ye'll need to finish off that hilt with a pommel from the heart of an Iron Golem, but once it's done, ye can just affix it to a dagger, simi, shortsword, yaoji or rapier. Then yer blade'll be so well-balanced ye can do a fancy double or triple-strike when ye put enough skill and power into it!"
You attach the Iron Golem Heart to the hilt, making a Bandit hilt.
Notes
- During the That Which Is Ours event, it became possible to apply Ivory to Bandit Weapons.
- During the Old Ghosts event, hiltable daggers and swords with 370, 400 and 420 base reqs started dropping from creatures that can drop Pristine Mana Shards.
- During the Master of Arms event, the quest was offically retired when certain daggers and swords were updated to appear in the loot system with the Multi-Strike property removing the need for hilts.
