1) "Flowers" doesn't say that that other world is the Virindi homeworld. Nor does it say it is not. It just says they were seen there, as they are seen here. By token of being seen, one could argue that Dereth is their homeworld... not that that's so (if it were, surely the Empyrean would have left some mention of them).
2) The encounter described was many years after humans and Virindi has encountered each other in Dereth. You can connect the dots there without my help. ^_^
