General
A very old city that has been mostly lost in portal space making it dangerous for anyone wishing to stay for long periods. It predates the Empyreans who at one point lived there and attempted to tame the unstable portal magic.
There are no permanent portals to the Floating City except in the Golem Sanctum, which is also a random appearing portal. Frequently, however, a portal may be found around 86.5S,5.4E near the Land Bridge Villas lifestone (see above for route).
Using one of the landscape portals will drop you randomly in one of the sections named below. The portal in the Golem Sanctum appears to be a stable portal to the Floating City's tunnels.
Every time a portion of the dungeon is loaded (whenever a player visits the city), certain portals within the Floating City are changed, presumably at random; this includes both the exit portals (usually a town), and the few random portals (as noted on the map files) which lead to some other random section of the Floating City. Look closely at the maps of all areas within the Floating City to see which portals are stable--do not change--and which portals vary. Depending on which portals are generated, it may be impossible to access certain levels of the Floating City unless your first drop point upon entry happens to be that particular level. If that happens, logging out and waiting 5-10 minutes for the dungeon to "unload" and logging on again can reset the portals and hopefully load the one you need. The Skyway, Tunnels and Lost Chamber require use of a random portal (either getting lucky from a landscape spawned portal, or one of the monthly-randomized portals within the city itself) to access. The Bar, Banderling Area, Construction Area, and Museum are all connected by a circuit of stable portals, so landing in any one of those four levels effectively grants you access to all of them.
The Famous early explorer of Dereth and friend of Elysa Strathelar Alatar Locke once traversed parts of the city and left behind his notes on each section.

Notes
- During the From Darkness, Light event, all the sections were updated with higher level creatures and the city now has a 150+ restriction. In addition, the Distillery Dew in the bar can now be given in for better rewards.
