The Quest Journal was introduced in Gears of Change as a way for players to keep track of their quest timers. Quests are not automatically added to your journal, instead, players must write an entry for each quest. These are normally entered through the game's user interface. However, the journals are stored on the players machine (default C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Asheron's Call on Windows XP) as text files, allowing for players to edit and add to their journals outside of the game, and even copy, paste, and rename entire journals for another character.

Features

All pages use labels, which is great for sorting in the Page List tab. Current labels are:

  • Info - Information on how to use my quest journal entries
  • Notes - Non quest information, currently this is only portal routes/shortcut.
  • XP - General experience quests. These are quests like Pincers, Tusks, Colo bosses, which have a variety of level/difficulty ranges, but are all very similar within their group and are usually run together.
  • XP### - level specific experience quests. Levels are based on restriction first, and difficulty second.
  • Soc - general society quests/timers. Currently only used for the armor writ.
  • Soc# - rank specific society quests. Initiate = 1, Adept = 2, etc.

Some pages contain a section at the bottom labeled ***TAGS***. These tags mark the page for use in searches. Current tags are:

  • Adventurer's Token - these tokens are given as rewards.
  • Crystalline Crag - this quest is located at the Cyrstalline Crag hunting/questing area.
  • Dispel Gems - dispel gems are given as rewards.
  • MFK - mana forge keys are given as rewads. See page for number of uses.

Instructions

Your quest journals are stored as text files locally. The default location is My Documents\Asheron's Call. They follow a standard naming pattern of Journal-<Server>-<Character>.txt, e.g. Journal-Leafcull-An Adventurer.txt These files are automatically created the first time you click on the Quest Journal button in the UI, found between the Stats and Map buttons.

If you want to copy my full quest journal, click the "Full Quest Journal" above. Copy all of the code and paste it into the proper character's journal file, then save and close it. That's all.

If you are only interested in a few sections (say, you are only level 90, and are not interested in society quests yet) you can edit your journal several ways:

  1. Copy the full journal code on the wiki to your local journal text file. Delete unwanted pages from the text file, then save and close.
  2. Use the sections on the wiki for specific parts of the journal only. Copy these into your local journal text file, then save and close.
  3. Copy the full journal code on the wiki to your local journal text file, then save and close. Log in to that character, and delete pages using the in game system.

Future Updates

  • Many quests have been left out of this first version, simply because I have not had time to research them or just haven't had time to update the files yet. Most notably, I do not have a page for Summoning of T'thuun/Patriarch Valley yet.

  • Inner Sea Gear Knight Invasion Area (low) - I intend to add entries for the various quests here, and give them an area tag, like the Crystalline Crag quests currently have.
  • Direlands Gear Knight Invasion Area (high) - same as the above low level area.

  • I plan on changing some of the XP050 quests to XP010, XP020, XP030, and XP040, and also add more quests to these ranges. While the Facility Hub does a great job at covering these levels, there are still some times when the hub quests are not enough to push you to the next tier, and some alternative quests would be nice.

  • I plan on adding pages for quests which do not have exp rewards, but are still useful to run and keep track of their timers. For example, Atlan Stones for writs, or the timer on the Radiant Mana Infusion. These will probably get the label Q###.

  • I plan on adding a 'Writ' tag. I'm considering adding a 'Cash' tag, for quests that reward you with trade notes.
