Quest Overview

Slay the brutal Temepuh: Hea Temenua, and then retrieve rubble from the broken Menhir Rings, and you will be rewarded with one of the powerful weapons of Palenqual.

Walk Through

  1. [Optional] Purchase the rumor The Broken Stones from Aun Laranawa the Barkeep.
  2. Find Hea Temenua, a random rare spawn on the Marescent Plateau, and loot a Hea Totem from his corpse.
  3. Hand the totem in to one of the 3 Aun NPCs in the big tent in the center of Timaru for the weapon of your choice.
    • Aun Rukuona gives the Caster Stave of Palenqual
    • Aun Turiona gives the Crossbow Kalindan of Palenqual
    • Aun Kiriona gives the Melee Staff Hoeroa of Palenqual
    • Note: You can still hand the Totem to Aun Hareltah, however, you must talk with him before you hand the totem. Hareltah can give any of the three weapons but you have to talk with him before you hand the totem and he will tell you which weapon he will give you. This was the way the quest used to work before the other NPCs were added. It is preferable to use the NPCs in the back of the tent to choose your weapon so you won't mistakenly get the wrong one.
  4. Decide which three totems you want to add to the weapon. Different totems add different extra properties or spells to your weapon (see below).
  5. Make your way to the bottom of each hive, and loot the Rubble from the corpse of a special (these are givable despite the dungeons being level restricted) blue colored Olthoi Noble. This Olthoi is not always there, you might have to kill a few spawns for it to appear.
  6. Turn the Rubble in to the Aun Ngationa in the tent of Aun Hareltah in Timaru to receive a totem that you can add to the weapon.
    • Alternatively the five different totems you get from turning the Rubble can be given to Aun Hareltah for some experience (500,000 max).
  7. Attach the three totems of your choice to your weapon.

Handing in the Hea Totem

Speaking to Aun Hareltah when you haven't killed Hea Temenua

Aun Hareltah looks you up and down. He pauses a moment, then says...
Aun Hareltah tells you, "I do not know your name. Do something in service to the Aun - make your name known to me - and then we will talk."

Handing the Hea Totem to Aun Hareltah

You give Aun Hareltah Hea Totem.
Aun Hareltah looks at the totem sadly.
"Ah, Temepuh. Too many of our people have fallen at the hands of your brutal raiders.
The Tah of Aun tucks the totem into his medicine pouch, and looks you in the eye.
"Later, I will join Temenpuh's power to my buadren, that he may in death redeem his life. But now I will reward you, with that thing most precious to the Aun."
Aun Hareltah gives you The Hoeroa of Palenqual.
Aun Hareltah gives you Hoeroa of Palenqual.
"This is the Hoeroa of Palenqual - the living totem of this island itself, given to us by spirits of this place who call themselves Deru. It may be turned into a powerful force for good or ill."
"But you have difficult choices to make before it will serve you, [Player Name]. My note will explain."

Handing in a Hea Totem taken from someone elses kill

You give Aun Hareltah Hea Totem.
Aun Hareltah tells you, "Hrm... so you claim to have slain Temepuh?"
Aun Hareltah places the totem in the palm of his hand, and closes his eyes.
After a brief moment, he shakes his head and hands the totem back to you.
Aun Hareltah tells you, "No, I fear you are attempting to deceive me. Your keh would sing of this victory quite plainly - it does not. You should return this to the one who actually killed the scourge of the uplands."
Aun Hareltah gives you Hea Totem.

Handing the Hea Totem to Aun Kiriona

You give Aun Kiriona Hea Totem.
Aun Kiriona tells you, "The Totem of Temepuh! Aun Hareltah will want to see this at once! And I must reward you, friend."
Aun Kiriona gives you The Hoeroa of Palenqual.
Aun Kiriona gives you Hoeroa of Palenqual.
Aun Kiriona tells you, "This is the Hoeroa of Palenqual -- the living totem of this island itself, given to us by spirits of this place who call themselves Deru. It may be turned into a powerful force for good or ill. But you have difficult choices to make before it will serve you. The note I gave you will explain."

Handing in a Hea Totem taken from someone elses kill

You give Aun Rukuona Hea Totem.
Aun Rukuona tells you, "The Totem of Temepuh! Aun Hareltah will want to see this at once! But ..."
Aun Rukuona looks puzzled. He cups the totem in the palm of his hand and closes his eyes. He shakes his head, studies the totem closely, and then frowns at you.
Aun Rukuona tells you, "You attempt to deceive me. You did not kill the scourge of the uplands."
Aun Rukuona gives you Hea Totem.

Speaking to Aun Hareltah after handing in the Hea Totem

Aun Hareltah nods at you kindly.
"Ah, [Player Name]. I just spoke of you yesterday. You are the slayer of Temepuh, who hunted our people at the behest of the atua ngamaru. Your name grows heavy on the tongues of the Aun."
"I trust the Totem of Palenqual serves you well?"

You allow Aun Ngationa to examine your Hea Totem.
Aun Ngationa tells you, "The Totem of Temepuh! You have done well to bring this to us, friend, but I fear I am not the proper person to receive it from you. You should speak with my kinsmen Kiriona, Rukuona, and Turiona."

Quest Timers

You give Aun Turiona Hea Totem.
Aun Turiona tells you, "You are too helpful, friend Isparian. But I cannot reward you for your efforts so often. Take this back, and bring it to me again when the cycle of the days has turned three times."
Aun Turiona gives you Hea Totem.

You give Aun Ngationa Rubble.
Aun Ngationa tells you, "You are selfless, Isparian. You have assisted our drummers in the southwest within the last three cycles. I cannot ask you to help me again."
Aun Ngationa gives you Rubble.

Aun Kahmaula gives you Rubble.

Aun Hareltah (Queen Quest interactions)

Speaking with Aun Hareltah after handing in rubble

Aun Hareltah regards you with some respect.
Aun Hareltah tells you, "Yes... your name has been mentioned to me. You are [Player Name], who aided Aun Gehaua by repairing the northeastern stone circle. Well met."
Aun Hareltah tells you, "I only wish your efforts were not being sabotaged by the others of your xuta. Wharu's influence waxes to the north of Timaru."

Speaking to Aun Hareltah when he's kneeling in the front of the building (Queen Quest is inactive)

Aun Hareltah cocks his head to the side, as if listening to something inaudible.
"Wind has brought tidings of your deeds, friend. She whispers, '[Player Name] has slain the brutal Temepuh, who calls himself Temenua as he hunts your people on the upland. Temenua, who sheds your xuta's blood at the behest of the soulless atua ngamaru.'"
"This deed is a fiery blaze upon your keh, Isparian, even if you know it not. Should you desire the Hoeroa of Palenqual, give me Temepuh's totem."
"But if you do not desire this fighting staff, if you would rather have the magical Stave or the ranged Kalindan, hold your hand for now. I will only reward you once for the butcher's death."

Speaking to Aun Hareltah when he's pacing in the front of the building (1st bell dropped)

Aun Hareltah cocks his head to the side, as if listening to something inaudible.

"This deed is a fiery blaze upon your keh, Isparian, even if you know it not. Should you desire the Kalindan of Palenqual, give me Temepuh's totem, for now is the time for caution, for hunting the enemy from a safe distance."
"But if you do not desire this ranged weapon, if you would rather have the magical stave or the fighting staff called hoeroa, hold your hand for now. I will only reward you once for the butcher's death."

Speaking to Aun Hareltah when he's pacing in the back of the building (5th bell dropped)

Should you desire the Stave of Palenqual, give me Temepuh's totem. Now we are pressed, and it is time for us to release the magic of Tonk."
"But if you do not desire this magical stave, if you would rather have the ranged kalindan or the fighting staff called hoeroa, hold your hand for now. I will only reward you once for the butcher's death."

You have gained 50,000 experience!

Notes

Ties with the Olthoi Queen Quest

  • This quest was once closely tied with the Olthoi Queen Quest in a way that was intended to bring out roleplaying in the game, but ultimately made the Menhir rebuilding part of the quest very difficult and unpopular. The mechanic was steamlined during the Discoveries event so players no longer had to coordinate their efforts with players running the Queen Quest. You can read more about this here.
    • Players who chose to side with the Hea Tumeroks would break the Menhir Rings using the Pyreal Bells.
    • Players who chose to side with the Aun Tumeroks would help repair the rings by handing in rubble to the appropriate Tumerok drummer found at each of the rings.
    • Handing in rubble at a Menhir Ring made that NPC disappear, so if you had broken 5 rings, the quest would be reset back to 4 rings and players running the Queen quest would now need to find an additional bell dropper.
  • Aun Hareltah was originally the only NPC that handed out weapons for the Hea Totem. The weapon he gave out varied on his position in the Timaru building, which changed everytime a stage of the Queen quest was completed:
    • When the quest is dormant, Hareltah will kneel in front of the building and reward the Hoeroa of Palenqual.
    • When the first Menhir Ring is broken, he will pace back and forth in the front of the building and reward the Kalindan of Palenqual.
    • When the fifth and final ring is broken, he will pace back and forth in the back of the building and reward the Stave of Palenqual.

Patch Notes

  • During the Fever Dreams event, obtaining the rubble was made easier (Blue Olthoi Noble spawns changed?), and the Attuned property was removed (can be given).
  • During the Discoveries event, this quest received the following changes:
    • Additional NPCs were added to accept the Totems so players don't have to wait for NPCs at the Menhir Rings to appear (Olthoi Queen Quest) if they don't want to.
    • Timer changed from "Once Per Character" to repeatable.
    • All three weapons of Palenqual updated.
    • Spells for the Siraluun Totem updated:
      • Casters: Mana Renewal VI changed to Minor Focus.
      • Melee: Rejuvenation Self VI changed to Lesser Strength of Earth.
      • Missile: Regeneration Self VI changed to Lesser Hunter's Acumen.
    • Timaru's Shelter increased from +10 to +30.
  • During the Pillars Made of Sand event, Hea Temenua was changed so his generation was no longer tied to the status of the Olthoi Queen Quest.
