Not so much a faction, as well as that they appear to be a primitive offshoot of the Mosswart race.[1] Friendly towards humans, they are based in the Merwart Village on the Vissidal.[2][3] They are not particularly smart, but their sense of direction in the dark is excellent.[4] The first Merwart to appear on the mainland was Merwart Mundagurg. He came to the town of Ayan Baqur to ask for help with combating some kind of Moarsman assault.[1][5]

They often refer to Angry Grandfather, who most probably is Ulgrim. [3][4][6] He raised the Merwart from the savagery of their Mosswart cousins with a potent, mind-expanding elixir.[3] He taught them coherent speech [7] and learned them the "secret of the Blue Stone" (Lifestone)[8][3] He told them to help humans[9] and uses them as explorers and spies.[10][11][5][4]
