Salvage material is used to enhance the attributes and/or modifier % of armor, weapons, casting items and jewelry in various ways. There are three general types of salvage - imbuing salvage (e.g. Salvaged Jet), tinkering salvage (e.g. Salvaged Steel) and restriction-changing salvage (e.g. Salvaged Teak).
There are a number of methods of acquiring salvage available in Asheron's Call.
The main method is by consuming non-quest loot generated items using an Ust, a utensil every new player receives upon each character creation (See Salvaging page for more details on how to salvage).

Foolproof Salvage
The benefit of this type of salvage is that unlike normal Salvage which has a maximum chance to succeed of 33.33% (38.33% with Charmed Smith Augmentation Gem) to be successfully applied, FP salvage is guaranteed to succeed.
- For players that have received a Writ of Apology over the years, they can exchange the writs for Foolproof Salvage from a Royal Guard in Samsur.
- Grand Casino Chests can also generate bags of non-rare Foolproof.
- Foolproof bags can also be generated through the Rares system (see below).

Notes
- In Atonement, Salvaged Black Opal, Fire Opal and Sunstone were added.
- In Festivus, Salvaged Ivory, Moonstone and Opal were added.
- In A Swelling Tide, Resistance Rending Imbues, Jewelry Cantrip Imbues, and Armor Defense Imbues were added, see the July 2003 Letter to the Players for details.
- In Old Ghosts, Salvaged Silk was updated and is now a free tinker with no chance to fail.
- In Dead of Winter, Salvaged Sandstone was added.
- In Master of Design the names were changed from "Salvaged Type" to "Type Salvage" for technical reasons.
- During the Cloak of Darkness event the Grand Casino Chest was upgraded and now has the chance of spawning Foolproof Salvage of all types.
