The "Simulacra" as Isparians have named them[1] are Virindi creations.
Originally, the Simulacra were created by a segment of the New Directive as a new physical form for them to occupy.[2] However, the Speaker of the New Directive and inner circle did not approve of this.[2] While The Crafter and its two colleagues were allowed to continue their experiments, it was told by the Speaker to never expect others to join it in its "horrifying debasement."[2]
Later, Martine created his own Simulacra in the image of the Strathelar Royal Guard.[3] First, they were used in an attempt to kill Prince Borelean[3] and later they were used to raid an Arcanum research facility.[4]
Aerbax also created Simulacra, turning Harker - a farm hand in the Subterannean Farm at Martine's Retreat - into a simulacrum for unknown purposes.[5][6] When Aerbax began creating its Favored Sons, it created a powerful Tusker Simulacrum which it used in an attempt to usurp Oolutanga's throne as the Tusker king.[7] Aerbax also created new powerful Paradox Simulacra to guard its Hidden Laboratory where it experimented on the creation of a prodigal Isparian.[8]
Most recently, the Apostate Virindi have also crafted Simulacra and used them to assault newly arriving Gear Knights, in an attempt to deceive the Gear Knights into thinking Isparians were responsible for the actions of the Apostates.[9]
The virindi message shard translator, Diyas al-Yat, is possibly a simulacrum or was at least, for a time, replaced with one. Antius Blackmoor has described seeing him remove his head and he has also been seen doing so by other Isparians (screenshot below).[10]
