Quest Overview
Investigate possible ley line disruptions caused by Lord Rytheran in the Graveyard.
There are two ways to complete this quest: by killing Lord Rytheran and looting the chest nearby or by retrieving a ring in the dungeon and giving it to Lord Rytheran. Unlike other quests with 2 ways to complete, this quest allows you to do both each time for double the experience reward! As a result, this quest has a very high experience reward for the level requirement and time to complete. Note that killing Lord Rytheran likely requires a group unless you have a very well equipped character.
Walk Through
- Speak to either Lacarra Avanthi at 61.8S 51.3W or Zho Heishan at 61.9S 51.4W. Both are located in Wai Jhou and will give the same rewards at the end of the quest. This is a permanent flagging and does not need to be repeated for future completions.
- Lore Note: Lacarra is associated with the Radiant Blood and Zho is associated with the Celestial Hand. Pick the one depending on which faction you are sympathetic to (the town crier indicated there are only a pair, and from the lore found during the quest it appears the Eldrytch Web and Rytheran, as a leader of some sort in that faction, actually is part of the disturbance).
- Note: Once you talk to either NPC, you cannot engage the other NPC for the quest.
- Travel to Graveyard and enter the Gardens of Menilesh at 64.7S 43.8W.
- There are now 2 ways you can complete the quest. You can choose to do either or both for full rewards. If doing both, you must kill Lord Rytheran first and then give the ring after he respawns. This is because you must loot the reward items after killing, rather than having them given to you directly when returning the ring.
Killing Lord Rytheran
- When your group is ready, attack Lord Rytheran at the drop of the dungeon. This will cause the nearby guards to attack also. If you ignore them they will eventually go back to the positions. Lord Rytheran can cast fellowship debuffs, so you might consider dropping fellowships before fighting.
- Important: Do not debuff Lord Rytheran! He will just counter-buff and make the fight even longer.
- Note: If anyone gets in trouble, they can run down the ramps of the nearby hallway to get safe. Healers can use this hallway to heal others who are fighting.
- Once he is dead, he drops 9 Engraved Ashen Keys on his corpse to be used on one of the 2 Lord of Menilesh's Engraved Chests nearby.
- The chest contains the Visage of Menilesh, the Rytheran's Mnemosyne, an Ornate Bone Key, an Ancient Mhoire Coin, and other loot. The visage and mnemosyne are needed for getting rewards later.
Returning the Ring
- Head down the ramps from the drop and then east once you come to a room with a Strange Pillar in the middle.
- Go up the ramp and to the south in the next room. Then west into a larger room which opens to the north.
- Jump down or go down the ramp to the north and locate the Ring of Remembrance on the floor. You will want to clear this room if you have a group.
- Everyone will need to loot a ring off of the floor. It respawns fairly quickly, so it does not take too long.
- When everyone has a ring, run back up to the top of the dungeon the same way you came down.
- Once Lord Rytheran respawns (if you killed him), give him the ring and he will give you the Visage of Menilesh and Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
- Note: These will be duplicates of what you looted from the chest if you killed him previously.
Rewards
- Go back to Wai Jhou and give the Mnemosyne(s) to the NPC you originally talked to for the experience reward. If you don't want the Visage of Menilesh it can be turned in for additional experience.

Lore & Dialog
If you are too low level:
Zho Heishan tells you, "I don't believe you can help me. I seek a stronger champion to face great peril."
Lacarra Avanthi tells you, "You are too weak to help me, youngster. Seek me out when you have become stronger."
Zho Heishan tells you, "Excellent, perhaps you can help me. My superiors seek some knowledge of the troubles affecting the ley lines of Dereth, and the problem seems to trace back to Rytheran, the ancient Dericostian noble. We have become aware that a path into Rytheran's current abode within the ruined Gardens of Menilesh has opened somewhere in the Empyrean Graveyard."
Zho Heishan tells you, "Find a way to seek out Rytheran and see if you can retrieve his personal mnemosyne... We need access to his memories about the reading of the Book of Eibhil. It may not be necessary to destroy the undead lord, but merely to attain his cooperation."
OR
Lacarra Avanthi tells you, "You may be worth my time... My masters have determined that the dusty, deposed Lord Rytheran is the source of our current troubles with ley lines. If you would make yourself useful to us and to all the humans of Dereth, seek him out in his garden sanctuary."
Lacarra Avanthi tells you, "There is a portal to these gardens located in the midst of the Empyrean Graveyard. We need a mnemosyne from Rytheran, bearing... vital information about a book he once held. Take it from him, by force or coercion, and bring it to me. You will be well rewarded."
Lord Rytheran tells you, "Ah, you seek my mnemosyne, do you not? My memories of that long-ago day when I read from the book... Your masters desire it so that they may meddle in this affair and save their fragile settlements from the depredation of the Blight. Well enough. I will give you the mnemosyne you seek if you do something for me..."
Lord Rytheran tells you, "In the ancient garden below, my followers have gone mad, forgotten themselves and their allegiance to me. Regrettably, they had something that is dear to me in their possession when they lost their minds. A ring of some... sentimental value. Find that ring, and bring it to me. I will give you the mnemosyne you seek when you bring me the ring. You will have to kill me to get the mnemosyne otherwise, and I can already see you lack the power and the will to do that."
If you choose to kill Lord Rytheran (Lady Aerfalle briefly appears after he dies):
You bring Lord Rytheran to a fiery end!
As Rytheran's battered bones collapse under the force of your assault, the undead lord's skeletal face seems to break into a bitter grin.
Lord Rytheran says, "Fool! Are you truly willing to risk my eternal enmity, and the wrath of the formidable legions that serve me? Even if my memories fail me, the Web will remember..."
A wind blows through the chamber, and the scattering of bones that was once Lord Rytheran of Menilesh vanishes. Another presence appears in the center of the room...
Lady Aerfalle says, "My poor Rytheran, what have you done to yourself? What perils were unleashed by your dabbling with that accursed book? I am here now, and I will not let these mortal vermin sully your remains..."
The pillars surface feels cold and oily. A horrible taste blooms in your mouth and you hear a whispering voice. You realize the voice is coming from your own mouth, whispering words in a language you don't understand.
You give Lord Rytheran Ring of Remembrance.
Lord Rytheran tells you, "Ah, a keepsake from my lady love... At last, a memory that will bring me some warmth in this eternal darkness. Take this mnemosyne, and my mask of office... And go. Leave me to my memories."
Lord Rytheran gives you Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
Lord Rytheran gives you Visage of Menilesh.
You allow Lord Rytheran to examine your Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
Lord Rytheran tells you, "I do not want this any more. The memories are too foul and terrible. Better that I forget. Bring it to your masters, who would surely find it illuminating."
Lord Rytheran tells you, "You have the mnemosyne your masters seek. Be off with you and bring it back to them. I find I take little pleasure in the stink of your sweat or the sound of your beating heart."
You give Zho Heishan Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
You've earned 297,235,856 experience. (Level 275)
Zho Heishan tells you, "Amazing! You actually convinced Rytheran to part with his precious memory of the Book of Eibhil? I do not know what you had to do to accomplish it, and perhaps that is for the best. You have my thanks, and the thanks of the realm of Dereth for the good you have done here. These memories will be invaluable in helping us solve the mess that Rytheran and that book created."
You give Zho Heishan Visage of Menilesh.
Zho Heishan tells you, "This mask is... breathtaking. It once belonged to Lord Rytheran himself? Truly a precious artifact. If you do not want it, I can grant you some practical experience for it."
You've earned 49,539,309 experience.
Zho Heishan tells you, "I believe you have served me already, have you not? I have no further tasks for you now, but I thank you for your attentiveness."
OR
You give Lacarra Avanthi Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
You've earned 297,235,856 experience. (Level 242)
Lacara Avanthi tells you, "Well done! I will not ask how you got this artifact from the hoary old tyrant. But this should contain the information we need to find out what Rytheran did wrong, and what we can do to stop what he has unleashed..."
Lacara Avanthi tells you, "You've already retrieved Rytheran's trinket for me. I thank you for your service, but I have nothing for you now."
Zho Heishan tells you, "You cannot fool me. You've already sought out Rytheran on Nuhmudira's behalf. Be careful of your associations. The blood witch is treacherous and would think nothing of sacrificing you for her own ends. I am afraid I can have no dealings with you."
Lacarra Avanthi tells you, "I can already tell that you've helped that groveling fool Heishan with this matter of Rytheran. Beware of the time when you are forced to choose between your own kind and the Empyreans who would enslave us all."

- When implemented there was a bug allowing unlimited xp so it was taken down Friday June 20th, and was hotfixed Tuesday June 24th.
