On March 10th, Sentinels across all the worlds of Asheron's Call presided over mass weddings in two shifts, at 5 and at 8 P.M. Pacific Time. The ceremonies were well attended, save on Darktide, where but two couples took vows, amid boisterous death threats.
A few of the betrothed on several worlds found themselves left at the altar, but channeled their heartbreak and frustration into the wholesale slaughter of Drudges, which probably worked to the public benefit even more than the weddings.
The sermon was scripted beforehand, but the celebrants managed to make each ceremony unique and special with their witty interjections. Here's the sermon with a sample of comments gleaned from the various worlds.
"I would ask that all guests please be seated in the pews. I thank you all for being here this evening! You are all part of a momentous event in Dereth. During the ceremony, I would like to ask that only those who are exchanging the vows of marriage speak. Let us begin. Are all here of your own free will?"
[Typical Response: "Yes."]
Silvermoon says, "No, I roped him to come :)"
Mishk says, "Kinda."
"Are there any here who have legitimate cause to oppose this marriage?"
[Typical Response: Silence.]
Wind Dancer says, "Yes."
Hanchi says, "Yes."
Je'shara says, "Not yet."
Brave Sir Robynn says, "Match made in heaven..." Shao Lynn says, "Robynn, you are supposed to be quiet."
Mott the Hoople tells you, "Legitimate? Nevermind."
"Grooms, do you take your bride to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
[Typical Response: "I do."]
[After protracted pause] Strife Daemonkin says, "Oops, I do :P"
"Grooms, do you pledge to love, cherish, and honor her, through all your time in Dereth?"
[Typical Response: "I do."]
Cameron of Acacia says, "Fer every day of me life, aye."
"Grooms, do you promise to remain faithful unto your bride, to support her, to be her finest friend, through all trials and tribulations, joys and victories?"
[Typical Response: "I do."]
Dionysian says, "Yes... and vitae too."
Mercantor says, "Define 'faithful' : ) JK"
Mott the Hoople says, "*emote* hmmmm"
You say, "Brides, do you take your groom to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
[Typical Response: "I do."]
The Scout wonders who that was crossing their fingers.
"Brides, do you pledge to love, cherish, and honor him, through all your time in Dereth?"
[Typical Response: "I do."]
Jadien says, "I'll think about it."
The Scout can't stand it and cries more.
"Brides, do you promise to remain faithful unto him, to support him, to be his finest friend, through all trials and tribulations, joys and victories?"
[Typical Response: "I do."]
Silvermoon says, "And Tusker smashings? Always and forever :)"
"You who stand here as witnesses are the friends and family of these brides and grooms, you are charged with the task of helping them in their new role as wife and husband, to support them in their times of need and to do all that you can to make their marriage a blessed and happy union. Please exchange the rings and say: 'With this ring, I thee wed.'"
[Typical Response: "With this ring, I thee wed."]
Jaelithe feels weepy reading the inscription.
Theprisoner cries like a little girl.
"You have made your vows. Before the witnesses of your friends and family, you are now pronounced husband and wife. May your marriage bring you great happiness. Please feel free to use your celebratory gems as a sign of this joyous occasion now."
[Typical Response: "<So-and-so> kisses <so-and-so> passionately.]
Guld says, "Ah, now that I'm married, I don't have to suck in my gut no more."
Alida says, "I'm waiting to use the gem at the birth of our first child."
Ur III plants a big wet one on Sissy.
Mercantor grabs Jaiden and kisses her so well he takes her breath away.
Cormell says to Ami, From my heart and my soul, with my mind and my body, I pledge myself to you, My Partner, My Counsel, My Lover, My Friend, Old Souls, Forever Together, Two Hearts Beating as One.
Jadeira tells Kovis, "Now go mow the lawn!"
Jadeira says, "All of the portals lead to Darktide."
Lauren Sterling tells you, "Can we pick up each other's stuff now?"
Ur III says, "BREAK OUT THE BOOZE!!!!!!!!"
Amethyst Selene says, "So how do we get outta here?"
[And on a different server:] Firebreath says, "HOW DO I GET OUT?"
Gharlan The Bleak says, "Go Honeymoon!"
Adelia the True says, "Geez, we can't leave you two alone for a second."
Firebreath says, "If anybody wants a honeymoon in the South Dires, I can portal :)"
