Asheron never told anyone what happened in the final moments. The loss of his mother, and the knowledge that she gave her life to preserve his, was devastating. Frankly, he was ashamed, and didn't want to think about it.
As time passed, his unusual stasis was noted. Even if they had suspected the use of the so-called "witch arts," he was too powerful and too widely respected to for the Inquisition to dare move against. Remember, not only was Asheron the most powerful mage of his generation, not only was he perceived as the man who defeated Bael'Zharon, he was ALSO a cousin of the Emperor.
