Quest Overview
This quest is the fourth quest in the Shadow Invasion Quest Chain. You must have completed Fate of Bael'Zharon prior to starting this quest. This quest can only be completed once per character.
At the end of this quest you have 2 options for getting rewards, with the only difference being the title awarded. Which title you choose is entirely optional and does not have any known impact/effect on the rest of the quest chain.
Completing this quest allows you to do the next quest in the series, Shadow Assault, after a 20 hour timer expires.
Walk Through
- Speak to Isin Dule in Arwic to begin this quest.
- You will be sent to speak to Black Ferah.
- Route: Run from Tou-Tou to 29.2S, 95.8E.
- Black Ferah asks you to visit three caves in the area which hold pieces of the Ley Line Recording Device.
- Visit each cave nearby, make your way to the bottom and retrieve the Piece of Recording Device from the floor at the end of each of them. The caves contain several dead ends, it may take some searching to find the devices. Due to the volume and density of spawns in the caves and Tou Tou area, you will likely be running and searching.
- Note: The caves are filled with creatures from the Tou Tou area. Most dangerous of these is the Shadow's Breath, which can kill anyone in 2-3 hits or less. Note also that the caves contain items used for the 7th quest in the series, Stop the Rebuilding. These other items can be ignored.
- 27.4S, 95.3E - Shadow Cave (Top)
- 28.9S, 96.1E - Shadow Cave (Middle)
- 28.3S, 96.9E - Shadow Cave (Bottom)
- Combine all three pieces to make a Recording Device.
- Bring your recording device to each of the 2 Dark Rocks in the area around Tou Tou.
- 28.0S, 96.5E - Dark Rock 1
- 27.2S, 96.6E - Dark Rock 2
- Give the device to each rock. It will appear on top of it when you do.
- You must now wait 10-15 seconds until you see a message stating that the device has completed it's readings. You must then use the device (by double-clicking the crystal, not the Dark Rock) to retrieve the data. It can be hard to stay alive while waiting. Try to run in circles while healing if you do not have a group to help clear the area.
- The Recording Device has finished collecting data.
- Note 1: When doing this quest with a group, each person must give the device and then use it from on the rock. For this reason it is best to do it individually, or have your group run to each rock and then clear enemies so everyone can complete the readings.
- Note 2: If you die while waiting for the device to complete its readings, you will have to wait a few minutes before you can give the device to the rock again.
- You now have 2 options for how to complete the quest:
- Option 1: Bring the Recording Device to Isin Dule, he will modify it and ask you to return it to Black Ferah. Give device to Black Ferah for rewards and the title "Searching the Shadows".
- Option 2: Bring device back to Black Ferah directly for rewards and the title "In the Dark".

You allow Black Ferah to examine your Recording Device.
Black Ferah tells you, "That is nice and all, but I asked you to collect data with the device, not just bring it to me."
Black Ferah tells you, "I wonder what Ler Rhan sees in you."
You allow Dark Rock to examine your Recording Device.
You place the Recording Device over the stone.
The Recording Device has finished collecting data.
You retrieve the data from the device
You have already retrieved data from this site.
You allow Dark Rock to examine your Recording Device.
You've already tested this site.
Siding with Isin Dule
You allow Isin Dule to examine your Recording Device.
Isin Dule tells you, "Ahh that data is most interesting indeed, and quite disturbing."
Isin Dule tinkers with the Recording Device.
Isin Dule tells you, "Return the device to Ferah, but with the false information I've implanted in it."
Isin Dule tells you, "If we are lucky it will take them a while to figure out the information they have been using is incorrect and will allow us enough time to prepare for their next move."
You allow Black Ferah to examine your Recording Device.
Black Ferah tells you, "You've collected the data?"
Black Ferah tells you, "Let me have a look."
Black Ferah looks over the data quickly.
Black Ferah tells you, "Very odd, this data conflicts some of our early tests."
